A DESERT OASIS
a two hour getaway
to a hidden place where the sun blazes down, almost as if to give your skin a kiss
and the wind blows, embracing you with desert air.
It was a spontaneous day trip on a rare, free Saturday with mom. The past few months have been so hectic with school, work, and family matters. I don't remember the last time I had a good nights sleep or even just a day to sit back and relax. Just when I thought I was going to suffocate, it was Memorial Day weekend.
Only visiting the desert once every year for Coachella, my mom and I thought it'd be a good idea to see what else Indio and Palm Desert has to offer. The windmills have always caught our eyes as we drove along the freeway. They looked so colossal and almost outer-worldly.
We drove along the outskirt roads after exiting at a random exit and stumbled upon this desert oasis. It might've been pure chance or simply traveler's luck, but I think I've found my favorite getaway.
When one thinks of the desert, the image that pops into mind is sand and heat; yet here, because of a rather large river of some sorts, the air was filled with a slight breeze. Families parked their cars and set up picnics by the river as their children played in the shallow waters. This place was the perfect pick-me-up after a long drive.
The outfits I wore were rather simple. The both looks had oversized tops and were accessorized with a bandana/handkerchief. I wanted to keep the looks rather casual as the overall mood was a quick getaway...perhaps, a desert rendezvous.
